When I was little I used to go and stay at my Gran's house every Tuesday night. It was great as it was nearer to school, I got a yummy cooked dinner, and I slept in her spare bedroom in a bed with an electric blanket - just thinking about it now makes me feel all warm and cosy.
In the spare room she also had a bookcase with some old books in,various classics in paperback, like 1984 which were a little old for me at the time, but she also had a set of 10 hardback Collins Junior Classics. God I loved those books. They were published in the early 60s, and were American and I used to spend hours and hours amongst their pages. I still remember my favourite story about 100 dresses. But that was nearly 30 years ago...
Then on Saturday night, huibbie and me were out on a rare night out to celebrate buying our new house, and walking past a charity bookshop guess what I saw in the window?
You got it!
I picked them up today. And I can't wait to read them to the girls - I hope they like them as much as I did.
That is such a lovely find! I love books, especially those with memories attached, really pleased for you :)
ReplyDeleteI've a set of classic books. Years ago, each month one book would come out with a magazine that went through the storyline and all the characters. The book is lovely, very fine pages and a lovely cover. All stand proud on my bookcase.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn - I love books too. I keep thinking about getting a kindle but it just wouldn't be the same! I can't imagine getting that excited about finding a kindle!
ReplyDeleteChrissy - that sounds amazing! What a lovely thing to have. Bet you looked forward to it each month.
ReplyDeleteSue - thank you! I started reading one of them at bedtime, and it seemed to go down well!
